Garuda Mantram is the Family mantram of Swamy AppuLLAr , the maternal uncle and AchAryan of Swamy Desikan . He blessed his nephew with Garuda Mantra UpadEsam that fructified at Thiruvaheendhrapura m .

Other kshetrams with special significance for Garudan are ThiruveLLiyankudi ( Sankha-Chakra dharar) and Thriuvaheendhrapura m , where there was a contest between Garudan and AdhiSEshan . Here at Thiruvaheendhrapura m ,
SWAmy Desikan had Garuda SaakshAthkAram and upadEsam from Him of Sri HayagrIva Mantram under the asvatta tree on top of Oushadha Giri overlooking the Garuda Nadhi flowing below . Swamy Desikan recited Sri HayagrIva Mantram and was blessed with the Darsana SoubhAgyam of Lord HayagrIvan and His LaalAmrutam that made Him an AchArya Saarvabhiouman.

Garudan's role in chasing away the Naaga Paasam during the battle field in LankA and bringing of the Vaira Mudi to BhagavAn at Melkote are additional things to reflect on the Vaibhavam .

 Saint ThyagarAjA chose the raagam Garudadhvani in one of his kritis to celebrate the auspiciousness of NaadhOpAsanai. The kriti Tattvameruga Taramaa is also set in the Garuda Dhvani rAgam.

கருடன் தான் விஷ்ணுவின் வாகனன் என்று எல்லோர்க்கும் தெரியும்.
விஷ்ணு கோவில்களில் துவஜஸ்தம்பம் உண்டு. அதில் கருடனின் கொடியே 
கட்டி இருக்கும்.
10 நாள் உற்சவத்தின் போது கொடியை ஏற்றுவது துவஜாரோஹணம்
என்பர். கடைசி நாள் துவஜாஅவரோகணம் நடக்கும். 3 ஆம் நாள் 
கருடோத்சவம் நடக்கும். இது எல்லா கோவில்களுக்கும் பொது.

அதில் மிக முக்கிமானது காஞ்சி கருட சேவை. இதுவரை சேவிகாதவர்கள்
வைகாசி மாதத்தில் சேவிக்க அவன் அருளை கோரவும் 

அதே போல் கல் கருட சேவை (நாச்சியார் கோயிலில் ) மிகவும் முக்கியம். 
அந்த கல் கருடன் உடம்பில் 9 பாம்புகள் இருக்கும். இது நவக்ரிஹ் தோஷத்தை போக்கவே.

கருடனை ஏள பண்ணும் போது முதலில் 4 அர்ச்சகர்கள் தான் வெளியே கொண்டுவருவர் 
அடுத்த படிக்கு 4 . இது போல் கடைசி படிக்கு வரும் போது 64 பேர் தூக்க வேண்டும் .
இதே போல் சன்னதிக்கு திரும்ப செல்லும் வரை.
64 இல் ஆரம்பித்து 4 பேரோடு முடியும். என்னே அவனது மகிமை.

கருடனுக்கு 9 பெயர் உண்டு. அவை 1 .கருத்மான் 2 கருட்: 3 தர்கஷ்ய:
4 வைனதேயன் 5 .ககேச்வர: 6 .நாகந்த: 7 .விஷ்ணுரத 8 .பன்னகாச: 9 சுபர்ண: 

திருபேர் என்ற திவ்ய தேசத்தில் சிறிது நகர்ந்து இருப்பார்.

திருகண்ண மங்கை திவ்ய தேசத்தில் கட்டம் போட்ட புடவை சாத்திகொண்டு 
இருப்பார்.

ஸ்ரீ வில்லிபுத்தூர் திவ்ய தேசத்தில் ரங்கமன்னார் உடன் இடது பக்கத்தில் 
நின்ற திருகோலத்தில் இருப்பார். வேறு எங்கும் இதுமாதிரி பார்க்க முடியாது.

கருடனுக்கும் ஆதி சேஷனுக்கும் சண்டை ஏற்பட்டது. நான் பெரியவனா நீ 
பெரியவனா என்று. அதை தீர்த்து வைக்கவே திரு சிறுபுலியூர் என்கிற திவ்ய 
தேசத்தில் சலசயனபெருமாள் ஆதிசேஷனை தன் ஆசனமாக ஆக்கி கொண்டார்.
கருடனும் தன் பலத்தை தவறாக எண்ணியதை மறந்து உணர்ந்தார். இங்கு 
கருட சன்னதி சிறுது கீழும் ஆதி சேஷன் சன்னதி சற்று உயர்ந்தும் காணப்படும்
