NANGANALLUR AANCHNEYAR

Members from outside Chennai sometimes may not be well informed about the famous Nanganallur Anjaneya temple. Being in Chennai now, I have visited the temple a lot of times. Three things which attracted me very much about the temple are its richness and divinity, very much appealing neatness and above all no Undiyal is placed any where in the premises even to place a small offering. Absolutely there are no words for contribution by priests. If you desire to make an offering you have to search for the concerned authorities. Of course if you place an offering in the Aarathi thattu hold by priests it is accepted. Many of the information about the temple told here are new to me also. The temple is so CROWDED you have to wait about half an hour some times reach the Anjaneyar sannidhi from the Gopuram!!! Wish all my friends a happy new year
1.HISTORY OF THE TEMPLE
Sri Maruti Bhakta samajam trust, consisting of people with high spiritual beliefs, desired for this temple. With the blessings of Sri Raghavendra swami and Sri Kanchi Paramacharyar entrenched the 32-foot idol of Sri Anjaneyar in 1989 and consummated the Kumbabishekam in 1995. The distinguished factor of the 32 feet idol is that it was made out of from a single rock.
2.DIVINITY OF THE TEMPLE
The Bhaktha Anjaneya temple at Nanganallur in Chennai is known for bestowing better health to the devotees. The idol of the central image is 32 feet in height making it one of its own kind. Sri Rama, Sri Lakshmana and Seetha with Sri Anjaneyar, Sri Vinayagar, Sri Ragavendra and Sri Krishna with his consorts Bhama and Rukmini are also enshrined with in the temple premises. The idol is believed to have special power and is considered a healer.
3. LOCATION

Nanganallur - the satellite town to the city of Chennai, is located about 10 Km from the city and 5 Km from the Airport, is now known as the town housing the 32 feet Viswaroopa Adhivyadhihara Sri Bhaktha Anjaneya Swamy. The Temple has indeed become a landmark and no tourist bus in that route skips the Temple. The Temple is accessible by road and by suburban trains stopping at Pazhavanthangal Railway station. For people coming from other areas Nanganallur is near to Mambalam Railway station. Nanganallur is a residential area.

4.TOUR OF THE TEMPLE
The main shrine houses Anjaneya. Temple Tower is 90 feet tall facing west and it is the main entrance. Anjaneya is facing west. There is an auxiliary entrance on the southern side used during temple festivals. A Rajagopuram is planned at the Western entrance and work has already commenced.
The main Temple building has pathways all around the sanctum sanctorum and also a large covered space (Mandapam) for devotees to assemble in front of the Lord for offering worship.
5.OTHER DEITIES IN THE TEMPLE
5a Sri Kothanda Rama Sannidhi
Rama On the North-West corner, a full-fledged Sannidhi for Sri Rama has been built and SreeRama is enshrined with Seetha and Lakshmana with Anjaneya in attendance. The Gods are facing east. Rama's role as the protector and ruler is signified here as Rama is seen carrying his bow, hence the name "Kothanda Rama" for the Lord here.
5b. Sri Krishna Sannidhi
On the Southwest, a Sannidhi for Lord Krishna with Rukmani and Satya Bhama, all facing east has been built and a "thulam" (weighing balance) has been erected for offering "thulabaram" (offering made in different materials equivalent to the weight of the devotee).
Even though a Sannidhi for Lord Rama is normally built in Anjaneya temple, rarely a Sannidhi for Lord Krishna is built. Here iIn Rn our Temple, Krishna Sannidhi is built to remind the devotees that among the Gods it was only Anjaneya who was present in both the Indian epics. amayana, as a direct disciple of Rama and in Mahabaratha, in the flag of Arjuna's Chariot as ordained by Lord Krishna to save it from destruction by the opponents.
5c Uchishta Ganapathi
In the Northeast part of the Temple, on a small platform, "Vinayaka" is housed facing east and to his left on another platform 'Naga' has been installed.
5d Raaghavendra swami
Moving towards the southern side of the outer Praharam facing West, Saint Raghavendra has taken His abode facing Lord Krishna.
6 MADAPPALLI AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE
On the Eastern side to the temple, a large building houses the Madapalli (kitchen) with facilities for offering Annadhanam to devotees and the administrative wings,
7. COW SHED AND LAND
To the Northwest of this building, a shed houses cows and calves to provide milk for daily Sevas to the Lord.

Beyond the main street on the Southern side, a large tract of land has been acquired to build the auditorium. All in all, the Temple has ample space to accommodate its future expansion plans.
8 TEMPLE TRUSTS
The Temple and related activities are handled by a public religious trust called Sri Maruthi Baktha Samajam Trust. The Tamil Nadu Government has exempted this Trust from the operative provisions of the Hindu Religious and Endowment Act and has given the Trust an autonomous status to function. We believe this is due to the very high level of transparency in the functioning of the Trust and the character and probity of the Trustees.
Annadhanam, social and cultural activities are handled by a public charitable trust called Sri Phavaman Annadhanam Trust. By its very character of being non-religious and secular, this Trust enjoys certain additional fiscal benefits, under the Indian Law.
Thus, the religious, social and cultural activities are separately handled by two different entities whose goal is one and the same: TO SERVE LORD ANJANEYA.
9. HOW TO PERFORM SEVAS
As a person who is religious minded, you could ask the temple trust to perform one of the Sevas in your name or in the name of anyone in your family or in the name of a friend, by booking for the Sevas well in advance.
You could financially support any one of the programme highlighted under "Plans on the anvil".
You could also request your relatives in India to visit the Temple as frequently as possible to get our Lord's blessings and to participate in the programmes.
You could recommend this site to all your friends and ensure that they stay in touch with us.
10. ABOUT DIFFERENT SEVAS IN THE TEMPLE
Several Sevas are undertaken as per the Vaishnava Sampradhaya (vaikanasa agamam). The core content of these sevas is ensuring no deviation from age-old dictates and also to encourage actions that would enhance the sanctity and spiritual aura of the temple.

10a. Gopooja
The Temple opens at 5-00AM in the morning. The cow and calf are brought before the Lord for the Ghopooja and immediately there after fresh milk is offered to the Lord as Neivaidyam. It is indeed a very pleasing sight to behold at that hour in the morning. Immediately thereafter preparations are made for the ritual bath for the Lord and sequentially thereafter several Sevas are held in His honor.
10b Shadkala poojas
For our Lord Anjaneya, every day, between 5.00 a.m. and 9.00 p.m. Poojas are held six times (shad kaala poojas) with offering of Neivaidyam, as prescribed in the scriptures. Only very few temples practice this scriptural dictate.
10c Hari vayu sthuthi and Vishnu sahasra namam recitation
Every day, six priests chant Hari-Vayu Sthuthi in praise of Lord Anjaneya between 8.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon.
In the evenings between 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. at the Krishna Sannidhi, Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana is chanted by six priests.
On special days, additional Homams and Japams are also performed extensively to increase the spiritual power and sanctity of the Temple.
